We bought this property in 2019 as first-time buyers and it has been a fantastic first home for us as a couple.
The first things that really grabbed us was the size of flat. It's one of (if not 'the') largest one bed flats in the area - boasting more than enough storage and an extremely large bedroom. We bought in the beautiful spring time of 2019 and the quietness of the road, the privacy that the balcony offers, and having the sunshine all day was perfect for us to relax in the summer evenings.
We didn't really know Camberwell at the time, but having a number of fantastic parks (Burgess and Brunswick) on our door step offered a balance between the city and having nearby green space for that Sunday morning walk (or run) in the park. Camberwell struck us immediately as an artistic part of town with the Art College nearby. With this audience in mind, restaurants and bars are diverse and will not disappoint. In addition to this, Camberwell has great links into the city via bus (fantastic bus route to anywhere in the city within 20 to 25 mins), trains from Denmark Hill, tube (Oval and Elephant and Castle), and a short 10/15 mins cycle in to the city. On the topic of cycling, there is a secure bike storage room available for owners on the ground floor.
Being on the top (third) floor (there is an elevator) not only provides us with the privacy we desire, but the tranquillity from surrounding flats. The main living area is a great entertaining space and the flat is generous in its proportions, equating to the size of many two-bedroom flats in the area. The space offers generous light with each main room benefitting from the floor to ceiling windows. Despite the size of the windows, they are triple glazed, so energy bills are extremely low compared to others - we definitely benefit from being on the top floor.
Having our own private enclosed communal garden has been such a blessing, especially through lockdown as we would have gone stir crazy without it (as well as the parks). It's perfect for sitting out with a morning coffee, entertaining friends, or just relaxing over a picnic. At times it's been a real sanctuary for us as it's so quiet and idyllic.
The street has a very friendly feel and we get along well with our neighbours who are all extremely personable and have a WhatsApp group setup.
This flat has provided us with unforgettable memories - we could not have made a better choice.
